The three best apprentices of the first batch Irene Ndauka (Hospitality), Simba Mandela (Mechanics) and Mariam Zayumba (Electrical) of VETA’s Dual Apprenticeship Training pilot project based on the German model have gone to the Dar es Salaam’s twin city, Hamburg in Germany

During their stay in Hamburg the three joined an introduction course in German language as well as 10 days working in a Hotel (Irene), in a Volkswagen Centre (Mandela) and at an electrical company (Mariam), where German apprentices are also learning.

After the training in the German companies the Apprentices got Certificates of Attendance at the specific companies.

In Hamburg the young Tanzanians proved their abilities as the Dual Apprentices Graduates. They also learned German culture. Mariam wrote to us: “We are enjoying and we had to get used to the food”, which is quite different from ours!

The Tanzanians are returning on the 2nd June, 2017 to Dar es Salaam and Moshi and also back to their companies, where they are working! A very nice and good experience for all!

The Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA) borrowed a leaf from German’s experience in dual apprenticeship training with view of ensuring young people are trained to become practically competent in line with the needs of the industry.
