CV template: Part-time

Vacancies for part-time roles can come and go quickly because of the need for holiday cover and reinforcements for busy periods. In that sense, you can’t afford to take writing your CV lightly.

To help you land that part-time role, we’ve worked with the experts at StandOut CV to create a part-time CV template.

Our template will give you a nudge in the right direction, but remember you need to tailor your CV to your personal situation and experience – don’t be tempted to simply copy the template!

Focus on committing to the employer

Although you’re applying for a part-time position, the employer will appreciate any demonstrations of your commitment. After all, part-time jobs can still be long-term.

If you’ve had any other part-time roles, write about how you bought into company culture or any instances of taking on increased responsibilities. By bringing it back to a commitment to the employer, you show that despite being part-time, you still give it 100%.
Give examples of how you used your skills

Plenty of part-time roles will favour soft skills such as communication, planning and time management. As such, we recommend giving examples of when you’ve used these skills to show the recruiter a broader feel for your abilities.

Instead of stating you have communications skills, write along the lines of ‘I demonstrated communication skills when addressing rooms of 30 people’.

By doing this, your points become more memorable and help you stand out from other applications because you’ve shown what you can do and what you can bring to your new role.
Touch on any niche knowledge

Part-time roles also involve developing niche knowledge on anything from menus to service offerings. With that said, our final tip is to cover any scenarios in which you’ve developed or used niche knowledge.

Most roles will entail using sector or company-specific knowledge, and showing examples of this in your CV will demonstrate how well you could take to part-time employment despite having less time to learn how the role works.
