CV template: Combination

A combination CV is a mixture of a chronological and a skills-based/functional CV. Essentially, it’s a chronological CV with a key skills or core competencies section at the top. This is ideal if you want to emphasise your key skills – and particularly good if you’re changing fields entirely.

To help you draft your combination CV, we’ve worked with the experts at StandOut CV to produce a combination CV template for you.

This template will help you structure your CV so that it showcases your skills in the most impressive way. However, remember this is a template, not a script.

Outline your core skills

Underneath your personal profile will sit a key skills section. Here, you should include around six to eight short bullet points that highlight any important skills and knowledge you have. Don’t include any more than this, or you risk waffling.

These skills should match the key requirements of the role. Read the personal and professional specification – it may that they’re looking for someone with strong communication and organisation skills. You then need to include this on your CV, to show why you’re the perfect person for the job.
Select your experience carefully

Remember, your CV is an opportunity to market yourself. While your key skills section will highlight your areas of expertise, you can also choose which jobs to include on your CV and the amount of detail you want to go into for each.

For example, if you are looking to change fields, you can select which job will be listed first in your employment history. This ensures that you include the most relevant experience at the top.
