CV template: Chronological

A chronological CV follows a simple format and is one of the most common templates used. It is fact-based and provides a clear overview of your work experience and qualifications. Employers favour these types of CVs because they’re easy to digest and provide all the information they need in the initial stages.

If you’re not sure where to start – don’t panic! To make your life that little bit easier, we’ve worked with the experts at StandOut CV to produce a chronological CV template for you.

This template will help you to emphasise your work experience and explain why you are the right person for the job. You’ll need to provide clear details of your achievements so far, including your qualifications and work history.

Focus on your career summary

Within this section, you’ll need to give a good overview of each role you’ve worked in to show how you fitted into the organisation and what the overall goal of your role was. Between one and three lines should be enough and make sure you only pick out the most relevant information for the job you’re applying to.

Under each piece of work experience, you should outline the key responsibilities of the role. Detail all of your relevant tasks and showcase as much of your skills and knowledge as possible. Use professional language and show how your duties impacted the business where possible. Give lots of details for recent roles and less for the older roles as you go down your CV.
Highlight your key achievements

Within your experience section, you should also include a ‘key achievements’ point if possible. Try to add some impressive successes you’ve had, that made a big impact on the employer or a customer/client. Use numbers to quantify these achievements if you can (e.g. sold 100 units in 1 month).
